We began renting the Farm in 1992, starting with one shed for rearing day old chicks to point of lay pullets for sale. Five years later we converted a second rearing shed to have two units on site and then four years on we changed the second rearing shed into a free range laying shed. We eventually bought the Farm in 2009.
Currently the Farm has five thousand free range hens, stocked at a density of nine birds per square metre, with eight acres of land to roam on daily. All the chickens are delivered at a day old and we rear them to eighteen weeks before they are then moved to our laying shed.
Free range eggs
All of our eggs are collected, stamped, graded and delivered to our customers within twenty-four hours of being laid. We are out delivering every day and have customers who have been with us since we first started the egg round over twenty years ago. We also sell eggs at the Tunbridge Wells Farmers' Market on the second and fourth Saturday of the month, and at the Hailsham Farmers' Market on the second Saturday of the month too. Our eggs are free range, comply 100% with all EU and Defra regulations and we Salmonella test every fourteen weeks, despite never having a positive result. We sell a prime product with outstanding customer service.
We specialise in...
• Free range eggs
• Sale of traditional breed free range point of lay pullets
• Seasonal lamb
• Hog roasts (uncatered or catered)
• Sarah Hirst and the Woody Riding Club joined us at the Farm in 2012. We are very happy to have them on site and Sarah is not worried about mucking in if needed.
• Philpots Farm is a registered and insured Care Farm and we have children and young adults on the Farm to help. Some students have come to us from the local school and are still with us today.
